GEOGRAPHY
Pulikkal Grama Panchayat is located in Kondotty Block of Kondotty Taluk and covers an area of approximately 28.2 sq. km. The Panchayat is bounded by the local bodies of Cheekode, Vazhayoor, Vazhakkad, Cherukavu, and Pallikkal. The region has a diverse geographical landscape comprising elevated areas, lowlands, and relatively level terrain. Geographically, the Panchayat area can broadly be classified into two major zones.
The region is rich in laterite and granite rock formations, rubber plantations, rocky terrain, coconut and arecanut-growing areas, and paddy fields. The Kozhikode–Palakkad Road passes through the southern edge of the Panchayat, dividing the area into two sections. The northern part consists mainly of mountains, small hills, slopes, and paddy fields, while the eastern, western, and southern parts are characterized by small hills, homesteads, and agricultural fields.
The major localities within the Panchayat include Alparamba, Muzhangallur, Kodikuthiparamba, Thalekkara, Alungal, Pulikkal, Kottappuram, Noonjallur, Valiyaparamba, Cherumuttam, Unnyathiparamba, Anthiyurkunnu, Chevittanikunnu, Mayakkara, Aroor, Thambaraparamba, Puthiyedathparamba, Panachikapallyali, Mangattumuri, and Thonikkallupara.
Based on its terrain, the Panchayat can be broadly classified into six categories: plain areas, gentle slopes, hilltops, elevated areas, steep slopes, and valleys. Of the total geographical area, approximately 52% consists of plain areas, 33% comprises sloping hilly terrain, and 15% consists of hilltops.
Due to the geographical configuration of the Panchayat, travelling from one end of the Panchayat to another may require travelling several kilometres through two or three other Panchayats. The north-western parts of the Panchayat were once densely forested areas and were also known historically as regions associated with hunting.
Most of the agriculturally suitable land is located in the plain areas. The major crops cultivated here include paddy, arecanut, banana, coconut, rubber, and various other plantation crops.
